Surviving the Recession and Global Financial Meltdown

The USA is the world’s largest economy. In August 2008, two of the largest institutions in the U.S. mortgage industry, Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, had to be taken over by the government to avoid them completely collapsing. These institutions combined, guarantee almost half of America’s mortgages. To survive they required a total capital injection of $25 billion.
